KABUL: Republican Chief Negotiator Masoom Stanikzai met with Jusuf Kalla, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Ulema Organization and former Vice-Chairman of Indonesia, and his accompanying delegation on Sunday in the Qatari capital of Doha.
Accompanied by the State Minister for Peace and the Afghan negotiating team members, Stanikzai said the Afghan government’s priority and goal was to arrange and ensure a nationwide ceasefire and constructive talks.
For his part, Kalla said that the high levels of violence in Afghanistan amid peace talks undermined the legitimacy of the intra-afghan peace negotiations in Doha.
He noted that through a truce and substantive talks, the two negotiating sides must provide security and stability in the country.
Meanwhile, welcoming Kalla’s remarks, Stanikzai lauded Indonesia’s positive role in the peace talks and called for sustained co-operation.
This comes as a few days ago, the Taliban insurgent group met and discussed the intra-Afghan negotiations’ progress and full implementation of the Doha agreement with Jusuf Kalla and his team and underlined that the group needs aid and support to ensure peace.
