Abdullah, Karzai denounce current level of violence 'unacceptable'

KABUL: Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) on Monday said that the current level of violence was not acceptable and that the Taliban should immediately reduce warfare.
A statement from HCNR said that Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and former President Hamid Karzai discussed the second phase of intra-Afghan talks, recent developments in negotiations, and the need for establishing national and international consensus for peace.
The source said that Abdullah and Karzai both called for a prompt reduction in violence during the meeting.
This comes as there has been no let-up in hostilities and clashes between Afghan forces and the Taliban across the country while targeted assassinations and insecurity have skyrocketed.
On the other hand, the Taliban and Afghan government’s negotiating teams have recently engaged in the second phase of Doha talks, but no tangible progress has been made so far.
