HCNR holds 4th meeting, endorses talks' guidelines

KABUL: The High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) leadership committee held its fourth meeting on Saturday (today) at the Sepidar Palace to discuss the guidelines for the negotiations and the second phase of peace talks. 
During the meeting, the Leadership Committee members approved the negotiation guidelines following a detailed discussion and exchange of views. 
Members of the committee, including former president Hamid Karzai, former Mujahedeen leader Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, stated the committee’s meetings would be held in short gaps aligned with progress in the peace talks.
HCNR Chairman Abdullah Abdullah said, “today [Saturday], the second round of peace talks between the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban will begin in Doha.”
Referring to the negotiating team’s comprehensive composition, Abdullah said that the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has full authority to negotiate and discuss the negotiations’ agenda.
He also expressed hope that the talks would proceed according to schedule.
Meanwhile, the leadership committee members emphasized the unity and political cohesion in the ranks of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, preserving national achievements, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country.
This is while the Afghan government negotiating team left Kabul for Doha last week to begin the second round of the negotiations. The team said they would focus on ceasefire as a priority and discuss a future government type.
