BALKH: A Buzkashi competition to promote mutual acceptance and peace has been launched in northern Badakshan province.
Organized by the Buzkashi Federation Department, the five-day competition kicked off on Sunday evening between players of northwestern provinces.
Mohammad Tahir, head of Buzkashi Federation of Badakhshan, said the competition kicked off for the purpose of coordination and mutual acceptance for peace and peace-building.
Buzkashi players can play a crucial role in peace-building and mutual co-existance because they came from within the ordinary people, he added.
The game took place in a relatively safer part of Badakhshan, whereas fighting between the Taliban and security forces is underway in other parts of the province.
Buzkashi (literally “goat pulling”) is an Afghan national sport in which horse-mounted players attempt to place a goat or calf carcass in a goal.
