BALKH: Rights advocates in northern Balkh province on Saturday called for Afghan women’s further participation in the ongoing peace process.
A gathering was organized in Mazar-e-Sharif city, the provincial capital, by the Afghan Women’s Educational Center (AWEC) Balkh office to confer on peace, security and justice.
Aurang Safi, provincial director of the AWEC office in Balkh, said the surge in insecurities and violence in the country had led to a situation where women’s rights were being disregarded.
While supporting the peace process, several rights and civil society activists underlined that Afghan women wanted to partake in the peace process.
The meeting participation deemed women’s presence in the peace process insufficient, saying the ground should be prepared for women’s active participation.
