KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani held a joint meeting with former President Hamid Karzai, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Abdullah Abdullah, and Jihadi Commander Abdul Rabul Rasul Sayyaf on Sunday afternoon to discuss key issues of national interest.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace (also known as ARG) as the participants discussed the peace process, structure of HCNR, and the modality of convening the council’s first-ever assembly.

This meeting comes after Abdullah Abdullah discussed the current peace negotiations with the Jihadi leader and former president Hamid Karzai on Thursday.

Earlier, Abdullah called on Ghani in a separate meeting to discuss the recent developments in the intra-Afghan talks, as well as organizing a grand meeting of the HCNR scheduled shortly.

This comes as the European Union (EU) and the UK Embassy to Kabul have pushed for the urgent need and establishment of the HNRC, citing it vital to provide directions for the Afghan peace negotiations.
