KABUL: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has held a meeting with the Chairman of the High National Reconciliation Council (HNRC) Abdullah Abdullah to discuss the recent developments in the intra-Afghan talks.
A statement released by the Presidential Place on Saturday stated that both sides also conferred on convening a grand meeting of the HNRC which is expected to take place in the near future.
Meanwhile, Abdullah also briefed Ghani about his recent trip to Turkey.
This comes as European Union (EU) recently called for a swift establishment and operationalization of the HCNR – three months after the council came into existence without much considerable headway so far.
HCNR was established in August this year to lead peace talks with the Taliban following a political deal between President Ghani and Chairman Abdullah in May.
Earlier, the power struggle between President Ghani and Abdullah over appointments to HCNR – comprised of 46 members – had undermined prospects for effective and unified leadership in the peace process.
