Cricket tournament to promote peace wraps up in Nangarhar

NANGARHAR: A cricket tournament with players partaking from different faculties of Nangarhar University has been organized to promote the message of peace, as well as encourage physical exercise among students.


Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, on Sunday said that the tournament continued for a month and players from 13 faculties of the university were selected by the university’s physical training department.


The teams of science and literature faculties were able to contest in the final match as the literature students set a target of 79 runs for the opposing team, he said.


Khogyani said that the science department won the championship of the tournament by securing three wickets of the literature faculty team in the final match.


In a ceremony held for the finale, the champion of the tournament and top players were awarded cups, medals and appreciation letters, he added.


“This tournament aimed to promote the culture of peace and tolerance among students, physical training and entertainment.”
