Helmandis call on warring sides to declare a ceasefire

KANDAHAR: Residents and civil society activists in southern Helmand province during a rally on Tuesday extended their sympathy and condolences to victims of the Kabul University attack and a roadside bomb blast in Lashkargah city, the capital of Helmand, urging the warring sides to declare a truce.

At the gathering held in Lashkargah, they said the Afghan people could no longer bear the ongoing violence and the conflict should be put to an end.

Abdulhaq Zwakman, head of Civil Society Coordination Center in Helmand who joined the rally, said that attack on Kabul University and Monday’s explosion in Helmand that targeted civilians were acts of savagery and crime.

He called on both sides of the conflict to pay heed to civilian lives and shrink the graph of innocent people being lost in war.
