GHAZNI: Governor of southeastern Paktia province during a conference has said that the role of Ulema in supporting the republican system was important.

The provincial council head, Abdul Malik Zazai, local officials and Islamic scholars attended a conference held in the Gardez city, the provincial capital, on Saturday.

Mulavi Abdul Wahid, one of the Islamic scholars addressing the conference, said only Afghans were victims of the ongoing war in the country, stressing that it was the responsibility of all Afghans to discourage conflict and support peace.

Mulavi Abdul Hussain Zaki, another cleric said that all the people, particularly Ulema and government officials should work for peace and stability in their country.

Other clerics who attended the conference said that all Afghans and Ulema supported the ongoing peace process and end of the conflict in Afghanistan.

Paktia governor, Mohammad Halim Fedayee, speaking to the conference said that Ulema’s role was important in protecting the republican system.

“Taliban have been fighting for collapsing the incumbent government and fuelling anarchism while our security forces are protecting this system and working to bring peace,” he said.

A few days back, residents of the Zadran region of Paktia province also called on the Taliban to embrace peace and shun violence.
