NURISTAN: A number of local officials and women’s rights activists in eastern Nuristan province on Tuesday lent support to the current government and stressed the protection of women’s rights.

They called for a ceasefire and insisted that the delegations from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban in Qatar should work honestly for peace.

Rita Ali, Nuristan Women’s Affairs director, said that women of the province supported the republican system of the government and their rights should not be violated in the peace talks.

Nuristan governor, Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Malakzai, told the conference that the government’s stance on protecting the current dispensation, women’s rights and the rights of other people of the society were clear.

Participants of the conference called on the Taliban to respect human rights and declare a ceasefire for achieving a stable peace in the country.
