KABUL: The Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Abdullah Abdullah is expected to visit India on Tuesday in order to drum up support for the Afghan peace talks, sources said on Sunday.
According to a report by the Hindustan Times, an Indian news outlet, Abdullah would meet top Indian officials on Oct. 06 and discuss intra-Afghan talks being hosted in Qatar.
This would be Abdullah’s first visit to India as chairman of HCNR. Abdullah had also discussed intra-Afghan peace talks, among other matters, with Pakistani officials during a three-day visit to the neighbor country on September 28.
Intra-Afghan parleys between the Afghan government and the Taliban were launched on September 12 in Qatar’s capital, Doha. However, no tangible developments have so far been made in these talks with spats over sticking points relevant to working principles still ongoing.
