Hamdard-led HIA expresses support to intra-Afghan talks

BALKH: A splinter group of the Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) party in a meeting in Mazar-e-Sharif city, the capital of northern Balkh province, on Wednesday conferred on the importance of peace and urged the conflicting sides to declare a permanent ceasefire.


Juma Khan Hamdard-led HIA Council Union held a gathering that was attended by several public representatives of the parliament and provincial councils, representatives of political parties, as well as political and influential figures.


Hamdard, a prominent HIA member who has served as the governor of different provinces in the past, addressing the event termed peace as one of the most essential needs of society. “Our party firmly supports the intra-Afghan talks in Qatar.”


Hamdard called on warring parties to end the conflict and reach a lasting peace in the country which he said were the main demands of the Afghan public.


Abdul Rouf Ibrahimi, former Wolesi Jirga speaker, who also attended the meeting, stressed the need for peace and stability in the country.


He said that the intra-Afghan talks in Qatar were a chance for finding a political solution to the Afghan conflict and the Afghan public also supported the efforts.


Similarly, a number of other political figures who spoke at the event called on the people to have a united voice for supporting the peace efforts.
