KABUL: US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West discussed the situation in Afghanistan with Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, former head of High Council for Reconciliation.
In a tweet on Thursday, West praised the Taliban’s decision to allow Dr. Abdullah to see his family and return to Afghanistan. Dr. Abdullah, who had been in Kabul since the last Afghan government collapsed on August 15, left the country on April 30.
The meeting covered issues critical to Afghanistan’s future and interactions with the international community, West tweeted.
Dr. Abdullah and Special Representative West also discussed the necessity for a political process, human rights violations, and women’s important role in society, the humanitarian situation, and the threat of terrorism in Afghanistan.
In the following days, the US envoy hoped his discussions with other Afghan leaders would continue.
