KABUL: Taliban have launched coordinated attacks on Mazar-e-Sharif, capital of Balkh province, while local officials say Afghan security forces were resisting against the assaults.
The multifaceted attacks were carried out after the group had strategically surrounded the city.
The clashes have been reported in the Kode Barq area of Dehdadi district and Pul Imam al-Bukhari area by the Orband reporters on Monday morning.
Defense forces are resisting the insurgency attacks; however, they are in immediate need of reinforcement to respond to massive assaults from insurgents.
Taliban, on the other hand, have claimed advances.
Meanwhile, the public has asked both sides of the conflict not to harm civilian lives.
Civilian casualties have reached unprecedented heights amid the yet-to-decline violence and clashes across Afghanistan.
Taliban has yet again increased their offensives on provincial centers, while maintaining several strategic districts of the country.
Last week, Herat provincial center witnessed similar attacks, which were countered by the defense forces in cooperation with public resistance forces.
