KABUL: The US has promised to provide the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) with warplanes including 37 Black Hawk helicopters and two A-29 Super Tucano attack aircraft.
According to unnamed sources quoted by Tolo News, the US officials have assured their Afghan counterparts of about 200 US contractors, who mainly work with the military aircraft, to remain until the end of September.
During the Taliban-government confrontations so far, air force attacks with the support of the US and other foreign troops is what has kept the Taliban at bay.
This is amid a rapid increase in violent confrontations between the insurgent group and the government, especially in the country’s Northern region. Taliban, earlier this week, warned the US of a possible response if it left troops in Afghanistan beyond September 11 deadline.
