KABUL: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the surging Taliban attacks in many provinces across Afghanistan made the US to assess whether the group is serious about putting an end to the ongoing conflict in the country.

In a joint press conference with France’s foreign minister, Jean-Yves Le Drain,  Blinken said” trying to take back the country by force is not consistent with peace efforts.

Blinken said “We are looking very carefully at the security on the ground in Afghanistan and we’re also looking very hard at whether the Taliban is, at all, serious about a peaceful resolution of the conflict.”

As over 50 percent of US and coalition forces withdrawal has been completed, Afghans are concerned about their uncertain future and a possible escalation of conflict in the country.
