KABUL: US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad said after a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Doha on Tuesday said that India will play an important role in the Afghan peace process.
In a series of tweets, Khalilzad said, “India will continue to play a key role as we work together, alongside the rest of the international community, to assist Afghans in achieving the peace, security, and economic well-being they desire and deserve.”
He said that both sides “discussed the priority both our countries attach to an independent, sovereign, and unified Afghanistan at peace with itself and the world.”
“India has played a very vital role in Afghanistan’s economic and social growth over the last two decades,” the US envoy said.
Indian foreign minister said that both parties shared perspectives on Afghanistan and regional issues during the meeting.
