KABUL: The government’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Masoom Stanikzai, and director-general for South Asia of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Hakan Tekin have met in Doha and discussed recent developments in peace talks, a statement from the State Ministry for Peace Affairs said Wednesday.

The statement said that the two sides exchanged views on the Afghanistan peace process on Tuesday.

“The head of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s Negotiating Team expressed appreciation for Turkey’s efforts in the Afghanistan peace process and said that Turkey has historical relations with the Afghan people and we welcome its constructive role in the reconciliation process,” the source added.

Hakan Tekin also said that Turkey will stand by the people of Afghanistan and support the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.
