KABUL: The American forces pullout from Afghanistan is accelerating with the US officials say that around half of the military personnel and equipment sent home or destroyed.

U.S. central command issued a statement saying withdrawal is between 30-44 percent complete and now six military bases have been handed over to Afghan security forces.

Meanwhile, in testimony before lawmakers in Washington, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the withdrawal is proceeding “slightly ahead” of pace.

This comes as US Defense Department last week confirmed that American troops and their NATO allies intend to be out of Afghanistan by early to mid-July, months ahead of the deadline announced by President Biden.
