KABUL: As part of US attempts to prevent the Taliban from control of Kabul, hundreds of foreign forces would stay in Afghanistan to guard the country’s capital.

According to a report citing unknown civilian and military sources, there would be a Turkish garrison near Kabul airport and 600 U.S. navy, as well as an undefined number of British troops to secure the Washington embassy.

The source noted that, according to US officials, Ankara was unwilling to have its soldiers placed alone in  Kabul.
US-led NATO forces are set to fully withdraw from Afghanistan by September 11 this year, which marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attack.

Many are concerned that a full withdrawal will push back Afghanistan to a civil war.
