KABUL: The Indian government has expressed concern over the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan, saying the move would possibly produce negative consequences for Afghans.
Indian Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, was cited in The Hindustan Times on Thursday as stating that the decision of US President Joe Biden on the military pullout was influenced by political expediency.
During a virtual debate with former US National Security Adviser HR McMaster, he highlighted the need for protection of achievements of Afghanistan made over the last two decades.
The external affairs minister, in conversations with his counterparts, said: “I think people do worry about what would happen if things go badly.”
His concerns about Afghanistan come as the US and other NATO allies are expected to complete their final withdrawal phase from the war-torn country on September 11.
