Govt Urged to Curb Violence Against Journalists

BALKH: A number of journalists in Balkh province have called on the Afghan government to identify and arrest the perpetrators of targeted attacks against media workers.
The journalists in a conference on Saturday condemned armed attack that killed Niamatullah Rawan, former Tolo News presenter.
Niamatullah Rawan was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the capital of Kandahar province last Thursday.
Journalists and local media representatives in Balkh said that attack on journalists was attack on freedom of expression and freedom of the press in the country.
Participants of the meeting urged on prevention of attacks and violence against journalists in the country.
Concerns about threats to media workers come as targeted attacks against journalists have recently increased across the country.
