Choice of Friendship, Enmity is in Pakistan’s Hand: Ghani

KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani has said that a real opportunity for peace was made available after decades of miseries in Afghanistan and the government was well prepared for the withdrawal of foreign troops by early September.
“For the first time in recent history, the best opportunity has been given for Afghanistan,” Ghani said at a security conference at the Presidential Palace (on Sunday. “We have been thoroughly preparing for this day and their absence for the past two years,” he added.
“We are completely prepared to protect and defend our soil, and it is time for Afghanistan to realize its national sovereignty and demonstrate its full neutrality,” Ghani said.
He added that the Taliban had no divine justification for continuing the fighting, and that Islamic religious scholars from all over the world have condemned the conflict in Afghanistan.
While referring to regional ties with Afghanistan, Ghani said, “Today is a day of decision for Pakistan.” “If our country is in turmoil, their country will be in turmoil too, and if they want our prosperity, they will also have their prosperity, choosing enmity or friendship is in your hand.”
The president said that Afghanistan will work with Pakistan in boosting regional cooperation on common issues if the neighbor country preferred friendship over hostilities.
Last week, US President Joe Biden and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg declared that all foreign troops would leave Afghanistan by September 11.
