Atmar, NATO envoy confer on peace, support to Afghan forces

KABUL: Afghan foreign minister and NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative for Afghanistan discussed the Afghan peace process and the organization’s continued support to Afghan forces, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Foreign minister, Hanif Atmar thanked NATO’s continued cooperation with Afghanistan and its support for the peace process, and welcomed decisions taken at recent meetings of NATO Foreign and Defense Ministers on Afghanistan and stressed the need for further cooperation and coordination between Afghanistan and the alliance, the source said.
Referring to the upcoming Turkey Conference on Afghan peace, both sides stressed the importance of cooperation between Afghanistan and international partners on a political settlement for the Afghanistan war, the statement added.
The source added that the two sides also underscored the need for continued consultations and exchange of views for the success of the peace negotiations.
