KABUL: National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Sunday said that the Taliban have no intention to lay down arms and embrace peace as the insurgent group was preparing to intensify violence across the country.
Speaking at a press conference, NDS chief, Ahmad Zia Saraj said that Taliban militants have increased their attacks on Afghan forces since the beginning of new Afghan year.
“The Taliban are gearing up for war. The group has no will for peace. The group’s members are busy harvesting poppy to finance their attacks on various parts of the country,” Saraj said.
Reports also indicate that Taliban militants have increased their attacks on Afghan Security and Defense Forces (ANSDF) in many provinces of the country.
According to officials, Taliban fighters blew up a bridge linking Arghandab district and the capital of Kandahar province, and targeted a US-Afghan military base in Khost province ongoing week.
The insurgents also attacked a military base in Shindand district of Herat province.
