KABUL: According to U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, US President Joe Biden has not yet made a final decision on the U.S. troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“I am aware that there is speculation that the President has decided on keeping troops there to November — until November. And I am a pretty prominent guy in those discussions typically, and to my knowledge the President has not made a decision or made any announcements on when he will decide to remove the troops,” Austin told reporters in New Delhi on Saturday, adding that “No decision on the length of stay or troop numbers have been made to this point.”
Austin arrived in New Delhi on Friday for a three-day visit.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met with the Pentagon leader.
