KABUL: Amid renewed diplomatic push for Afghan peace, Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani met and discussed recent developments in the intra-Afghan peace talks in Doha with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the head of Taliban’s political office.
According to the Gulf Times news agency, both sides emphasized Qatar’s essential role in pursuing reconciliation among all Afghan parties to realize the Afghan people’s aspirations for stability and peace.
This is while the US recommended earlier this month that an inclusive transitional regime replace Kabul’s government before a new Constitution is decided upon and elections are held.
The proposal came through formal letters sent to Afghan leaders by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Russia and Turkey have agreed to host international conferences on Afghanistan as part of the bids to find a political settlement to Afghanistan’s quagmire.
